'Image of the Day' Award from The Guild of Professional Photographers.

Today I am so excited to have achieved the’Image of the day’ award form The Guild of Photographers.

The concept:

When Judith from Judith Stewart Photography envisioned her idea, she knew exactly the type of models she needed to make it work! 🐺

“I knew I was looking for a 'wild' child, bare foot, loose hair, not smiling and a large dog which knew the child.

The image I had in mind had been inspired by the old Charles Burton Barber images from Victorian times 1845- 1894 featuring little girls and large dogs in the warm tones. I wanted to reflect the painterly feel in the images too.

Other influences were the 'Game of Thrones' and the big battle scene in the film 'Twilight', where you can see the protective element and bond of the wolf and young girl Renesmee.

This little girl had particularly piercing blue eyes and with the wild blonde hair, this all lent itself so well to what I had envisaged. I didn't want a smile, but I did want them to both look at me, so some well timed 'cat noises' helped.

I used one light, a 120cm Octobox and a reflector on the other side. I was using flash, so 1/200 sec, ISO 100, at F9 to ensure dogs eyes, nose and child were all in focus."

Beautiful. Thanks for giving us an insight into your image Judith!

My Silver Award Achievements with The Guild of Photographers

Photography has been my passion for many many years and yet still a week doesn’t pass when I don’t learn something new, whether it be in camera, lighting or in editing. Year on year I see how I continue to improve and grow and this is reflected by my awards and achievements.

Over this last year I have achieved several Silvers with The Guild of Photographers, a lovely step in the right direction from the previous years Bronzes of which I am still very proud.

I thought I would share some of my Silvers with you here. As you can see I have achieved Silver in Newborn, Maternity, Pets. and Portraiture too.

Bring a prop

My aim is to create beautiful photographs during your Newborn Session that you will treasure forever. To do this I always invite parents to bring along any special items to the shoot. They are often items like a beautiful blanket that Nanny has crocheted, or an old teddy which was once Mummy's favourite. Sometimes the items can be larger, like this stunning 'toy' car that Mummy and Daddy bought for his nursery.  These extra special elements make the Newborn Session unique and personal to that family.
